“The suggested matches is what we went with and it worked out perfectly, everyone had a good time with each other at the Reveal Day.”

Program Details

Every year, the SCU SWE board team hosts their SWE Sisters program for interested women in engineering seeking a fellow student to mentor them.

In previous years, they collected participant data and manually matched each mentee to a mentor. This year, we leveraged our auto-match service to help the SCU SWE group not only collect their mentees’ and mentors’ preferences, but also to make data-informed decisions about who was ultimately matched with whom.

[The Match Report] simplified the matchmaking and took into account of the small details such as interests whether it was hobbies or food, etc.

Launching Our Mentorship Report with SCU SWE

On the Match Day of the program, we collected participant data from 18 mentees and 14 mentors, ran our matching algorithm, and put together a thorough report for the SCU SWE team.

Our report included our suggested list of matches, that the SWE group could take or leave, curated from our matching algorithm’s assessment of the mentee and mentor preferences. We also include each mentee’s top mentors, which the SWE group could leverage as much as they’d like in the matching process itself, or just to learn more about their participants.

There were a lot of factors to match the Littles and Bigs and with Opal's algorithm, being able to take everything into account, and make things simpler and quicker.
